- Sales deflator 2.8% vs 3.15 prior y/y
ONS notes;
- Retail sales (incl fuel) lowest since Jul 2017 (-0.8%)
- Sales 3M/3M saw 0.1% gain for both total and ex-fuel
- Food sales fell 0.4% m/m, and by 0.9% y/y
- Sport equipment, games and toys saw a rise in sales on consumer fitness drive
- Online sales y/y were 16.5% (s/a) in Jan 2018
- Price deflator (incl fuel) fell 0.6% m/m Jan 2018 from 0.1 in Dec 2017; ex-fuel fell by 0.9
Cable looked to have the jump on the numbers (shock), as it had already fallen to 1.4098. It’s had a nudge under that low then bounced back to 1.4125. Currently at 1.4111. The report was soft but not as bad as it could have been.
